Split

On some of our designs BLR have selected leather ‘splits’ for use to upholster the furniture’s outside back or sides. These ‘splits’ are also genuine cattle hide, (literally a layer of hide that’s ‘split-away’ from just under the strong top grain layer). While the leather ‘split’ does not have the same strength and resilience as our premium ‘Full Grain’ or’ Corrected Grain’ leathers (and ‘splits’ should never be used on the seats or backs of furniture), modern Tanning methods offer practical use of the ‘split’, making leather panels with an embossed grain, that exactly matches the look of the premium top grain leathers, used to upholster the furniture’s body-contact areas. Not only does this technique maximise the yield from the cattle hide, it inherently reduces the cost of the finished product.
