Did You Know?
Did you know …?
Fig 1: If you stand in a normal, upright position, the pressure applied to your lower lumbar inter-vertebral discs is around 100kg.
Fig 2: Now suppose you sit down in an unsupported but upright position. The pressure upon that same collection of discs has increased to 140 kgs.
Fig 3: But if you adopt an incorrect sitting position by leaning forward just 20 degrees, the weight on the lower lumbar discs will soar to 190 kgs!
A minor change in your sitting position can increase the weight acting upon your lower back to more than 2.7 times the weight of your whole body! Imagine the damage you could cause to your vertebral discs simply by sitting in the wrong type of furniture for any length of time. Think about the things that could happen if your were to complicate matters by sitting crookedly as well.
That’s why it’ essential that you take at least 10 minutes to test-sit in the furniture you are considering, to ensure that the support will be body correct for you …for a lifetime.
